The Patrol Bureau is responsible for the enforcement of all local, county, and state laws. It additionally performs many service functions, ranging from investigating traffic accidents to numerous types of public assistance requests from citizens. It is the policy of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau to patrol proactively. To investigate suspicious persons and circumstances, and to actively enforce motor vehicle laws. While requiring that any person will only be stopped or detained when there exists reasonable suspicion to believe they have committed, are committing, or are about to commit an offense.

Racial profiling is strictly prohibited. Our policies and procedures are intended to assist Sheriff’s Officers in accomplishing the mission of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office while respecting the dignity of all persons.

Utilizing the Pittman schedule, which provides 24-hour coverage, the Patrol Bureau is directly responsible for the day-to-day delivery of law enforcement services to all Hudson County parks and the many Hudson County-owned facility site locations. Sheriff’s Officers observe, identify, and act upon any unusual occurrences and illegal activity in a concerted effort to keep our community and county parks free from crime; and roadways safe to drive upon and deter, detect, and apprehend criminals.

The Patrol Bureau has always been dedicated to maintaining a safe and crime-free environment for the citizens of Hudson County. Most Hudson County Sheriff patrol cars are equipped with radar and Mobile Data Terminals (MDT). These in-vehicle computers allow the patrol officer to receive an almost instant look-up of license plates and driver information, which can prove invaluable during traffic stops. It also allows access to state and federal data systems for criminal wants and warrants.
